THE First Regiment Royal Australian Artillery Band has delighted Bundaberg students with a musical visit.

Kalkie State School came to life on Thursday as students from across the region attended the school to view the concert and join the band.

Kalkie State School instrumental music teacher Tony Brown said the day provided a "once in a lifetime" opportunity for students.

He said students had been given the chance to play with some of Australia's best musicians.

And on Friday night the army band will support BUSHkids with a concert at the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre.

The Band of the 1st Regiment formed as a brass band in 1954 at the Gona Barracks in Brisbane.

The group transformed into a concert band in 1972 and now has 30 members, featuring former Bundaberg State High School captain Frank Hart.

Army band live concert:

  • What: 1st Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery family concert
  • When: Friday, 7pm
  • Where: Moncrieff Entertainment Centre
  • Cost: Gold coin donation to support BUSHkids Bundaberg
