Are you bushfire ready?

YESTERDAY'S bushfires were a stark reminder of how quickly they can take hold of our dry, barren conditions.

No sooner had reports of the fire near Bundaberg North State High School came in, we heard about several fires at Coonarr and another in North Bundaberg.

What's frightening is the speed in which they can spread and homes can be in danger.

Anyone who hasn't planned ahead for the bushfire season has almost left it too late.

Back-burning and breaks should have been done months ago.

But it's also a reminder to ensure you have a fire safety plan in place.

What would you do if you were threatened by a bushfire?

It's a daunting prospect if you're unprepared.

There's nothing worse than panicking and wondering what to save if your home at risk, or not even know what to do to help protect yourself.

Even if you live in a residential area, you could be at risk, so ensure you know what to do - and if you're not sure, ask for help.
