Families bolt out of the gates for Boxing Day meet
THE Bundaberg Racing Club's Boxing Day meet at Thabeban Park is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with parents encouraged to bring the kids down for a fun day of racing action.
Club president Leanne Modolo said the six-race meet will provide a full day's worth of entertainment for the whole family.
"Gates open at 10.30am, and we're going to have six local races, with the last one on at 4.30pm," Modolo said.
"We will have entertainment on throughout the day, for the kids there will be free give-aways, free kids hot rods, ice blocks, lolly pops etc."
The fields for the six races on offer will be finalised shortly, but a quality field of horses is expected to prove the equine entertainment.
Modolo said the club's Boxing Day races have traditionally been family days.
"It's always a really good day, a lot of families come and have a good time," she said.
"Because a large number of people are on holidays, a lot of out-of-town people come down and have a look at the races."
The meet includes big money races, such as the 850m $6000 Across The Waves Handicap.
On the longer end of the scale, the mammoth Bundaberg Commercial Cars/George Potter Memorial will see the horses run 1380 metres.
