Child predator look-alike feared

A DENNIS Ferguson look-alike is believed to have been naked when he confronted two children in a Bundaberg city toilet and he is also accused of approaching children in a shopping centre.

Bundaberg detectives are looking for a man resembling notorious pedophile Dennis Ferguson after receiving reports of the two bizarre incidents in the city a month ago.

The latest complaint is the third time since January people have reported seeing a man resembling Ferguson in Bundaberg.

Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Senior Constable Russell Williams said a woman made a complaint to police a few weeks ago.

Snr Const Williams said the woman was taking her children to a public toilet block in the city centre on September 8 when they saw the man.

He was apparently standing naked inside a disabled access toilet and when he was seen he asked the children: "Do you like what you see?''

The woman fled the scene with her children and later contacted police.

A week earlier, another woman contacted police about an incident in a city shopping centre.

SNR Const Williams said the woman was leaving a supermarket with two girls when she saw a man approaching.

The man, who did not see the woman, started walking towards the girls, but the woman called to them and he continued past them.

Both women told police the man looked like Dennis Ferguson.

In January concerns were raised about a man at the Shalom markets who looked similar to the pedophile.

Two months later staff at a child care centre in west Bundaberg believed they saw a man who looked like Ferguson near the centre.

Police interviewed the man and established he was not Ferguson.
