Bassett turns hero as villans rule clash
DANIEL Bassett struck six times to be the most prolific scorer in Football Bundaberg's weekend premiership matches.
He had a field day as the Villans white-washed the Astros 11-nil in the all-Brothers-Aston Villa under-12 clash, picking up two goals by half-time, then really cutting loose with a further four in the second stanza.
Jordan Coonan also bagged a first half double.
Villa's third under-12 team Mites was no match for Across The Waves (ATW) United, losing 5-nil with Rohan Killer featuring for the winners, also with a double.
The other big under-12 winners were Moore Park who outgunned Bingera 6-1 with Ryan Walker leading the way with two goals per half.
Brothers also achieved a significant victory in under-16, with their Villans side claiming ATW Saints' halo 1-nil, courtesy of a second-half strike by Jed McCormack.
But ATW's under-16 Hammers were far too strong for Alloway, running out 13-nil victors with Andrew Lindeman, Killer's brother Josh, John Brillante and Hugh Gyngell each racking up two goals.
The under-14, 13 and 11 ATW Hammers outfits were each also successful, accounting for Diggers 14-nil, ATW United 6-2 and Diggers Gold 2-1 respectively.
Kyle Cook netted a hat-trick as the under-14 Hammers established a 5-nil half-time lead, but Matthew Ferguson was the star in the second term, finding the back of the net four times, while Hayden Lobegeier, who was among the first-half scorers, also completed a three-goal haul.
One of Brillante's brothers, Josh, and Jay Cooper shared the scoring honours for Hammers in under-13 with two goals each, while Lindsay Scott was a match winner in under-11 with his double.
Fire raged to a 4-nil result against Cutters in the all-Bingera under-14 affair with Jayson Blackwell setting up the result with a three-goal onslaught in the first half.
Bingera also completed the double in under-18 with one of their rising stars Michael Stayte's four goals lifting Fire to a 9-nil scoreline against Knights and Dean Pickup chipping in with a hat-trick.
Cutters sliced through Diggers 6-1 in a Clem Campbell Cup semi-final with two goals each to Shaun Sergiacomi and Gokhan Dogan.
But Bingera's under-13's met their match against a slick Moore Park, losing 4-nil with Aidan Montero posting a double for the Beachsiders.
Also in under-13, Alloway tasted dual success on the program with Jesse Giovannoni's two goals the difference against North Bundaberg 2-1, and his one goal against Isis aiding a 2-nil outcome.
Montero's sister Ayla went one better than him with a hat-trick, but it was not enough as the Moore Park under-12 girls were pipped 4-3 in their clash with Burnett Heads United for whom prolific scorer Morgan Murnane added another three goals.
Moore Park had better fortune in under-11 and under-14 girls, within the former, a Hayden Mann hat-trick the highlight in a 6-nil despatch of Bargara Orcas and in the latter, their team downing North 4-nil.
