Another windy weekend and a chilly morning for the region
WEATHER: Yet again, it looks as though we are in for another windy weekend across local beaches - especially through today and tomorrow, before hopefully we start to see these strong winds ease back through Sunday and into early next week.
Winds will be from the south this morning at around 15-20 knots before increasing to 20-25 knots from the S/SE through this afternoon.
Tomorrow will greet us with S/SE to E/SE winds that will be lighter through the early morning but increase to 20-30 knots during the day, while Sunday will hopefully see the S/SE winds ease back a little to around 15-20 knots and possibly even lighter (fingers crossed).
The only good news will be that we should see mostly sunny and blue skies over the next few days, with only a minimal chance of a scattered shower, although we can expect a chilly morning today (8 degrees.). Temperatures across the weekend should improve slightly and hover about 23 degrees.
SWIMMING: Swimming conditions will not be great unless you hit the beaches through the very early mornings or else look for a beach that can offer significant protection from the prevailing SE winds.
Hervey Bay will be great for a swim as will be the southern pocket of Agnes Water, but this beach can be tricky during the outgoing tide if there is some swell about. Locally, Nielson Park, Mon Repos or Moore Park could offer reasonable swimming conditions from early to mid morning while the winds are lighter and the tide higher, but these locations are unpatrolled so be careful.
The open and exposed beaches will get quite choppy and a little messy as the winds increase and there will also be a side current pushing along their length from right to left. Swim only at patrolled beaches, during patrol times and always between the red and yellow flags - remember, if we can't see you, we can't save you.
BEACH PATROLS: Today - 9am-5pm at Kellys Beach and Agnes Water ONLY
Tomorrow and Sunday - 9am-5pm at Kellys Beach and Agnes Water ONLY
Weekdays - 9am-5pm at Kellys Beach and Agnes Water ONLY
SURFING: Local surfers have again been able to find plenty of fun-sized waves about our local beaches, with last Sunday in particular throwing up some great conditions.
These small, fun waves have continued through this week, but unfortunately the size has dropped quite quickly over the past day or two, however with the increase in onshore winds, we may again see another small increase in wave heights through tomorrow.
The waves will be wind effected, particularly on the open beaches, but hopefully we will see some fun-sized waves about our local beaches. Hit the beaches through the early mornings for best results.
