Alleged axe attack in Childers main street

A 40-YEAR-OLD Dallarnil man has been charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and wilful damage following the alleged assault of a woman in Childers' Bicentennial Park on Sunday afternoon.

Childers Police Senior Constable Donna Gilliland said police responded to the incident shortly after 2pm after the man allegedly used an axe to threaten the female with before striking her with the blunt side of the axe.

Police say he then took the axe to the female's bike before using a vehicle to run over the bike.

The man has been released on bail and will front Bundaberg Magistrates Court on September 30.
