All stars to take on the world's best

They thrashed the best the NRL had to offer this year, and now the Indigenous All Stars will get to take on the world.

The 2016 match, to be played at Suncorp Stadium on February 13, will see the Indigenous All Stars team take on the World All Stars, to be coached by Broncos mentor Wayne Bennett.

The World team will feature four players from Australia, New Zealand and England, with the rest of the team to come from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, PNG and France (if available).

The Australia, New Zealand and England captains will be automatic selections for the team, which will be selected by Bennett.

The World All Stars team will also include at least one player - and a maximum of two players - from each NRL club.
NRL head of football Todd Greenberg said the change would ensure the game was even more relevant and entertaining.

"Not only will this move reinvigorate the concept, it will also ensure some of the best players from the best rugby league nations are playing together," Greenberg said.

"We've seen in recent years the potential of some of the Pacific nations, and this will ensure some of those players are given a chance to celebrate their heritage alongside some of the best players in the world from other nations, as well as the game's finest Indigenous talent."

Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston has played in all five of the annual All Stars games and is again expected to lead the Indigenous team.
