Alice in Wonderland set for school gala
CURIOUSER and curiouser the cast and crew rehearse behind locked doors in preparation for the gala performance of the famous fairy tale Alice in Wonderland.
The spectacular costumes, set, props and acting will carry you away into a fantasy full of excitement and thrills.
Isis State High School drama teacher Meagan Gilsenan said this year's gala performance is nothing like anything the school has performed in the past.
"This year we held auditions for all the parts, including all the cast and crew,
"The passion all the students show is inspiring and we have 40 students from Year 7 to 12 who make up the cast and crew,” Ms Gilsenan said.
The school gala performance is a tradition that continues to grow and the bar is raised with each performance.
Each year the students strive for perfection to entertain and dazzle their audience.
The school gala tickets sell out and the cast and crew are once again inviting the community to join them all for a night of fantasy.
Ms Gilsenan said she encourages guests to dress up in theme and to immerse yourself into the story.
"The hospitality students will provide a delightful themed tea party with delicious treats made by the magical hands of the catering students.”
The cast and crew are into the final weeks leading up to the one-night-only performance set for Friday, October 7.
The Isis Cultural Centre on Churchill St will host the gala and will showcase the best of the arts from the students of Isis High school.
Ms Gilsenan said all the students have worked on the production for many weeks and have been hands-on from the script to set design.
The performance has been a closely guarded secret with a limited number of guests welcomed into the closed set rehearsal.
"The gala night wouldn't be possible without the fantastic support from the school P&C,” Ms Gilsenan said.
For guests over the legal age and wishing to decline a cup of tea can opt for a stronger brew of hops and barley in a refreshing alcoholic beverage during intermission.
The performance promises to carry you away into a fantasy dream of wonder and magic.
The students will use the holidays to finalise sets and costumes in the lead-up to their final dress rehearsal set for next week.
Ms Gilsenan said there is plenty of nervous energy in the lead-up to the gala.
"The P&C have been the driving force behind the gala each year and they support the students greatly,” she said.
The evening starts at 5.30pm and you can purchase tickets from the school office.
