Alcohol superstore to open
LIQUOR store giant Dan Murphy’s is set to open its doors in only one week.
The alcohol superstore has announced it will open on October 28 at the Targo Street site.
And the business will provide about 30 new local jobs.
Bundaberg Region councillor Wayne Honor said the jobs boost would help Bundaberg’s unemployment rate.
“I think it’s absolutely a boon to Bundaberg to have 30 jobs on offer for local people,” he said.
“It will benefit local families.”
Cr Honor did not expect other businesses to lose profits after the initial honeymoon period wore off.
“I think any business up for the challenge will adapt by diversity,” Cr Honor said.
“Bundaberg businesses are very good for that.”
He said established businesses would not lose clientele.
Cr Honor said Bundaberg people would visit the new store in droves.
“I’m sure there will be a lot of interest as there always is when new business comes to town,” he said.
Dan Murphy’s community relations manager Simon Berger said the store would feature a variety of 35,000 different products.
He said one-third of items on the shelves would be wine.
“They are very reasonably priced brands to premium and collectable,” he said.
The store was not expected to open until November, but construction moved quicker than anticipated, accelerating the opening date.
The superstore will hold its official opening ceremony on November 13.
