Agnes get fighting fit for season

RUGBY LEAGUE: Agnes Water Marlins held its first training session on Tuesday night as the team prepares for its inaugural year in the Northern Districts Rugby League competition.

The team's squad of 24 senior players gathered for a pre-season hit-out at the Agnes Water sports ground.

The Marlins will test their mettle against Bundaberg Rugby League team Across The Waves in a scratch match next month.

Coach Darren Brennan said the team would hit the training paddock hard to ensure its first year in the competition was a successful one.

"The club's really starting to take off at the moment," he said. "We're excited and we hope the town is as well."

"The players are keen and we've got a good spread of talent to draw upon."

Brennan said while the club was in its infancy, it was lucky enough to have recruited experienced players and staff.

"We're a mixture of players from teams from all over the region, and further a field," he said. "We've got guys coming over from the Wondai Wolves, the Wallabies from Gladstone, and a few local guys as well."

Agnes Water Marlins face off against Across The Waves at Across The Waves sports complex on February 25.
