Bundy side robbed of victory

A TYRONE Hopgood field goal after the siren robbed Across The Waves of a victory over competition leaders Hervey Bay.

Hopgood booted home the penalty goal after Hervey Bay was awarded a penalty in the final seconds of the game to tie the final score at 28-all.

Across The Waves coach Mark Craswell said the draw against the BRL powerhouse was evidence his team was approaching finals form.

“I think we were the better side on the day,” he said.

“The guys played hard and they played cleverly to set up good scoring opportunities.”

Centre Dave Zanetti took control of the centres with pace and skill setting up strong attacking movements and scoring three tries.

Props Damien Evans and John Fapula was an asset to Across The Waves applying constant attacking pressure on Hervey Bay with bustling surges.

Craswell said the pair had formed a strong partnership and earnt his team crucial metres in the later stages of the game.

“They were running ball all day and they we’re running it hard.

“They copped some big hits, but they just kept going.”

Craswell said the draw was evidence of how close the competition had become in the lead-up to finals.

“Anyone who thinks any one team in the league isn’t going to be competitive is kidding themselves,” he said.

“The competition is very tight and it’s only going to get closer as finals approach.”
