Accused puppy farmer banned from owning dogs

A MAN accused of running an alleged puppy farm on a remote property outside Ipswich has been banned from owning any more dogs.

Haris Ljuhar, 40, is charged with 215 animal welfare related offences after RSPCA Inspectors and Goondiwindi Criminal Investigation Branch detectives raided the alleged puppy farm in January.

They say they found a large number of dogs, mainly American Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Australian and American Bulldogs and French Bulldogs on the property.

More than 80 dogs and puppies and ten cats were seized and transferred to RSPCA headquarters at Wacol.

It will be alleged the conditions the dogs and cats were being kept were 'appalling', Chief Inspector Daniel Young said.

"There was inadequate shelter and water and a number of the dogs were carrying injuries that needed urgent veterinary treatment. There was one dog that was sharing a small space with a dog that was deceased and there were the remains of a number of corpses lying near dogs that were tethered," Mr Young said.

The animals were forfeited to the RSPCA and most of them were rehomed.

Ljuhar did not appear when the matter was mentioned in Goondiwindi Magistrates Court this month and an interim prohibition order was granted.

Ljuhar is prohibited from possessing, purchasing or otherwise acquiring any dog other than dogs as approved by RSPCA.

The RSPCA has not approved Ljuhar to have dog.

The matter will next be mentioned in March 2018.
