Accused Coast cop assaulter released on bail

A SUNSHINE Coast man accused of assaulting police has been released on bail after his lawyers agreed to stricter conditions than they first proposed.

Reece Kyle Ames, 27, facing charges including assaulting police and obstructing police, was bailed at Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday.

Mr Ames's barrister Andrew Anderson argued his client could be released on a number of conditions including reporting to police and residing at a set address.

But Justice Martin Burns said he was concerned those conditions would not prevent Mr Ames from reoffending or returning to drugs.

Justice Burns said he would not consider releasing Mr Ames without him submitted to random drug testing and a curfew.

"The main risks as I see it is that he will commit further offences and will use drugs,” Justice Martin said.

Mr Anderson agreed to the extra conditions and Mr Ames was released on bail.
