I'm Only Foolin' in Young Guns

A SINGLE Bundaberg dog will line up in the GQL Young Guns final this Saturday at Thabeban Park.

I’m Only Foolin cannot afford to muck around, up against the top young pups from around Queensland chasing the $2500 kitty on offer.

Steve Martin’s flyer has shown some impressive form in the past few weeks, but Convincing Talk and Villa Rides are hard to look past as favourites.

On a wet, slow track last weekend the times recorded where not sensational, but Villa Rides’ devastating win definitely caught the eye of Bundaberg Greyhound Club president Brian Terry.

It was six lengths quicker than any other dog last weekend and at $2.60 was by far the best bet on the day.

Pre-race favourite Convincing Talk was also a stand-out, so much so that Terry has called this one a two-dog race.

“No doubt the top two are the ones to watch,” Terry said of the pair starting from box one and two.

“There are always upsets on the boil, but these two are clear favourites for me.”

The only dark horse Terry tipped to cause an unlikely upset was box seven’s When’s Dinner.

It ran well in second place last week in its first trip to Thabeban Park.

“It looked impressive and if things get messy on the inside When’s Dinner could easily run past them,” Terry said.

Terry assured the very real chance of rain this weekend is no threat to the dogs.

“Last week the track was in doubt but some breeze came through on Friday and it was fine to go,” he said.

“We’ve been ankle-deep in water before and still run — they don’t go fast enough to hurt themselves.”
