Photos: Friday storm like something out of movies
TANNUM Sands resident Colleen Platter said storms late on Friday were "like those movies with heavens coming down on you".
"The sky was ever so low, and then it went dark, and it just blew away," Ms Platter said. "I was battening everything down, but it lasted 20 minutes max."
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a serious hail warning on Friday afternoon for an oncoming thunderstorm expected to bring with it heavy rainfall and large hailstones.
It marked the end of a humid trough that had been hovering over central Queensland for much of the week, according to forecaster Brendan Bradford.
"There is a high chance of rainfall to last over the weekend, dropping off on Sunday afternoon," he said.
"While Gladstone might experience heavy rainfall and large hailstones on Friday night, this will be the biggest rainfall for the weekend with no damaging winds expected."
Gladstone airport had 10mm of rain from 9am on Friday. Boyne Island recorded 1mm.
