Raewyn Harlum says she's been psychic since three years old

FOR more than 60 years, Raewyn Harlum was harbouring a deep, dark secret.

Mrs Harlum, from Pomona, remembers having her first psychic experience at the age of three, and since then she's always known there is something different about her.

But Mrs Harlum said she learnt to hide her psychic abilities out of fear of being ridiculed by friends, and a husband who thought it was "crazy".

After the death of her husband of 48 years she began to document her childhood and current experiences, which led to the publication of her first book, I Was Only Nineteen.

Eighteen months later she realises there is nothing to fear and has just released her second book, Coming Out.

"I just originally started to write down experiences I had had, for my granddaughter," she said.

"I realised I was being told to come out."

Her books, however, are not just about extrasensory perception.

Mrs Harlum has had some dramatic highs and lows in her life, from being accused of prostitution by police as a 17-year-old mother living in Sydney, to dealing with a husband on the run from the law.

At 16 and pregnant, she followed her then boyfriend, Glen Newell, from New Zealand to Australia.

One morning she sensed something was wrong and told him to run.

Shortly after, the police raided her home in search of Mr Newell.

The police revealed to her his real name was Mervin Harlum and that he was wanted for possible involvement in a murder.

It wasn't long before she also found out he had an estranged wife she didn't know about.

That didn't stop her marrying the love of her life, and the two of them stayed together until three years ago when he died.
