Crowd numbers grow at the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival

2PM Sat: Crowd numbers were starting to build as the second day of the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival swung into action in Rockhampton.

Just under 1000 people attended Friday night and the number of patrons edged closer to 400 on Saturday at the festival grounds in Victoria Pde.

The festival features signature dining experiences, food and win masters classes, interactive cooking classes and live music.

EARLIER: WITH a wine in their hands and their eyes on the river, Leigh and Jon Stitz know this weekend is going to be special.

The couple, who have been Rocky locals for seven years, stepped into the Capricorn Food and Wine Festival yesterday afternoon to watch their teenage daughter row on the Fitzroy River.

The festival started on the riverfront yesterday at 4pm, and will run through the entire weekend until Sunday night.

"If you are going to start a weekend, this is going to be the way to do it," Jon said.

"We were just discussing coming tomorrow for a bit of the jazz.

"We've come to have a couple of wines, try out some different ones."

Leigh and Jon said they were pumped the festival was in Rockhampton this year, after deciding to skip it while it was in Yeppoon.

They said the distance made it too hard to get a taxi home.

The couple's daughter is also set for a good time, as she races on the Fitzroy with the Fitzroy River Rowing Club. Jon said she was the first rower ever to come out of Glenmore High.
