Acker looks good for top title

CAN Acker Run continued his charge towards the 2010 Greyhound of the Year with a typically dominant performance in the Best 8 (460m) on Saturday.

Can Acker Run lept like a bullet from the Thabeban Park starting gates taking an early lead around the first turn and maintaining it for the entire race.

Bundaberg trainer Gary Thorpe's two runners, Back Page and Ranger Thomas ran in second and third.

Can Acker Run's time of 26.72 clearly indicated the effect of rain that fell earlier in the week.

Ledaro Cleo claimed an easy seven-lengths victory in the Maiden (460m) speeding away from Where's Dratta and Blue Ray on the final stretch to clock a time of 26.97 seconds.

Diamond Thunder scored in the Novice (460m) after knocking on the door in its previous two starts.

The Jeff Card-trained bolter won in a head-bobbing finish over Madam Lakoda.

Narelle Mulcahy's Southern Spirit continued its dominance at Thabeban Park notching up its third win from its past five starts.

Southern Spirit made a cautious entry into the race, but powered away on the final corner to win over Elite Looking and Miss Standout who finished in a dead heat.

Kybong trainer Laurie Ward's bolter Goyo Brett continued its love affair with the Thabeban Park track to claim the Fourth Grade (460m) on the grass circuit.

Goyo Brett finished too strongly for the veteran Sister Cool and Enforcers Girl in 26.91 seconds.

Lily Savage was the medium of a solid betting plunge in the Fifth Grade (460m). Lily Savage tracked early leaders Flipertty Jig and Majestic Jewels for most of the race.

When the field turned for home however, Lily Savage had too much in the tank and won comfortably in 27.12 seconds.

The final race of the Fifth Grade (460m) was won by Great Alexa in 27.10 seconds.

Great Alexa was resuming from a seven-week week-lay off, but showed no signs of needing the gallop, bolting straight to the front.

Diamond Tulsa ran home strongly for second over Maddy's Queen.
