Alleged bikie given bail with $50,000 surety and conditions

AN alleged Toowoomba bikie will be released on bail to face drug trafficking and weapons charges after spending 15 months behind bars.

Dale Gordon Pettmann, 38, is also accused of being a member of a banned criminal organisation under new anti-bikie laws.

Mr Pettmann, who must live in Redbank, was granted strict bail with a $50,000 surety, regular police reporting and drug testing.

Justice Jean Dalton, who heard a bail application in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday, said prosecutors had not yet presented an indictment to the Toowoomba court and not date was yet available for a trial.

"So it seems that if he is not granted bail, he will remain in jail for a considerable additional period from today," she said.

Justice Dalton said Mr Pettmann had to show why his continued detention was justified because of his alleged association with an outlaw motorcycle gang and because some offences were allegedly committed on bail.

She said he had ties to the Toowoomba area, had a work history and an earlier bail breach for failing to surrender into custody was no longer deemed a factor leading to him being an unacceptable risk.

Justice Dalton said she would only consider bail if there were conditions requiring Mr Pettmann to abstain from illicit drugs and to undergo random drug tests.

These were added to the bail order.

Mr Pettmann was among 11 people charged after raids across southern Queensland, including properties in Hodgson Vale, Kleinton, Pittsworth, Toowoomba and Helidon Spa.

Police allege amphetamines, cannabis, steroids, cash and a handgun were recovered in the raids.
