70yo man accused of 'serious act of domestic violence'

A 70-YEAR-old man accused of strangling a woman in a serious act of domestic violence will likely have his charges transferred to the District Court.

The man, who can not be named to protect the identity of his alleged victim, was charged with strangling the woman, assault occasioning bodily harm and contravening a domestic violence order.

The charges relate to a serious incident at Caloundra West on May 16.

The man did not appear in court when his charges were mentioned briefly today.

His solicitor did not apply for bail on his behalf and he was remanded in custody.

His matters will return to Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 28.
