Circuit explosion causes power outages across Toowoomba

UPDATE: Power has been restored at homes and businesses across Toowoomba after a circuit breaker fail caused an explosion at the Torrington Substation.

About 3pm the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Ergon Energy were called to the substation in Torrington to extinguish the blaze.

It caused temporary power outages in Highfields, Meringandan, Gowrie Junction and Cabarlah.

There were also reports of power flickering in Kearneys Spring, Newtown, Rangeville and Middle Ridge.

EARLIER: Ergon Energy is investigating power outages across Toowoomba. 

More than 6300 power outages have been reported in Highfields, Meringandan, Gowrie Junction and Cabarlah.

There has also been reports of power flickering on and off since about 3pm in Kearneys Spring, Newtown, Rangeville and Middle Ridge.

More than 180 people  on the Toowoomba Crime, Alerts and Discussions Page on Facebook said they lost power.

Ergon Energy corporate communications manager Rod Rehbein said patrols would be conducted to identify the source of the outage.
