$5m funding up for grabs for Queensland environment projects

QUEENSLANDERS who are passionate about the places they live are being invited to apply for a share of $5 million in funding through the Newman Government's Everyone's Environment grants program.

Member for Bundaberg Jack Dempsey said the State Government was now accepting applications for round three of the Everyone's Environment grants program.

Mr Dempsey has encouraged Bundaberg locals to nominate for a share in $5 million of funding for Queensland projects that focus on conservation, environmental research or heritage.

"Local organisations taking on environmental and research projects can apply for up to $100,000 and heritage projects can receive up to $40,000," Mr Dempsey said.

"The Everyone's Environment grant program is delivering $12 million in total to tackle environmental degradation and conserve Queensland's cultural heritage."

Mr Dempsey said now is the time to take advantage of this great opportunity and make a positive environmental impact.

The Everyone's Environment program has been a huge success, with over 420 applications received in the last two rounds.

"So far, the program has engaged over 10,300 volunteers who have removed some 370 wheelie bins of rubbish, more than 76,000 hectares of weeds and planted 94,000 trees.

"With the new research category this round, I look forward to seeing more local projects getting off the ground."

The Everyone's Environment grants program is also supporting heritage activities including the restoration of historic buildings.

"I call on our local heroes, enthusiastic volunteers, organisations and research institutions that are keen to make a difference to get involved in local projects.

Applications close on August 15, 2014.
