Girl, 12, in critical condition after falling from cliff
UPDATE Monday 6.40am: A 12-year-old girl was left in a critical but stable condition after falling from a cliff at Gardners Falls at Maleny, with LifeFlight forced to call off an aerial rescue as a severe storm descended on the region.
Paramedics and the Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight Rescue helicopter rushed to the scene yesterday afternoon just after 2pm, when the girl fell about 9m from a cliff into the waterhole.
The rescue helicopter transported an aeromedical crew to the scene, but had to leave ahead of a severe storm approaching from the north.
The aeromedical crew remained on scene to carry the girl hundreds of metres to the Gardners Falls car park.
The girl received emergency treatment in the car park before paramedics took her to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
Paramedics had previously reported the girl was 10 years old.

The girl is believed to have had an accidental fall while playing, and fell about 9m, hitting her head on rocks.
She lost and then regained consciousness and suffered a possible spinal injury.
A rescue helicopter was called but she was unable to be airlifted due to the weather and was carried out and then taken by ambulance to hospital.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman says the 10-year-old girl who has fallen almost 10m at Gardners Falls will be airlifted from the scene.
A rescue helicopter is overhead at the popular Maleny waterfall site at present, and the spokesman said crews are preparing to carry her out to an evacuation point where the chopper can gain access.
The girl reportedly fell about 9m and hit her head on rocks just after 2pm.
The spokesman said she lost conscious for some time, but was conscious again.
He said she may have suffered a spinal injury.
SENIOR and intensive care paramedics are rushing to a popular Sunshine Coast waterfall after a 10-year-old girl has plunged 9m onto rocks.
Air ambulance crews and the SES has also been notified, in case an extrication mission is needed, after the girl fell at Gardners Falls in Maleny.
Just after 2pm paramedics were called to the scene, in response to reports the girl had plunged about 9m, hitting her head on rocks.
An ambulance service spokesman said she was reportedly conscious at the moment, but not fully alert, and it was unclear exactly what condition she was in until paramedics arrived and were able to assess her.
