100 struck off rebate register

ABOUT 100 insulation installers have been struck off the government's ceiling insulation scheme for dodgy practices, after 1270 complaints were made.

Dozens of Bundaberg residents were left out of pocket or with damaged property after work by The Insulation Factory - highlighting a problem that sparked an audit of companies on the register.

The company has since been removed from the register.

Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett announced that “about 100” companies had been ditched, after claims of other installers inflating prices or doing dodgy jobs.

“I have to stress that we are seeing a remarkably small number of installers who are breaching the guidelines,” he told reporters in Canberra.

The opposition warned that millions of dollars of taxpayers' money could have been wasted.

“The government has quickly found 100 dodgy installers with only a little bit of digging,” Opposition environment spokesman Greg Hunt said.
