A Warwick Credit Union member transferring thousands of dollars by logging onto www.warwickcreditunion.com.au might well pause to ponder how far WCU has travelled over the last 40 years.
Initially operating from a rented room in the Black Cat Casket Agency in Palmerin Street Warwick, the Credit Union’s maximum loan was $600 and the strong room was a tin box. In the first annual report directors reported total savings and members funds of $25,543, total loans of $24,105 and cash on hand of $784. Early transactions were often in the range of fifty cents to a dollar.
From that modest beginning the Credit Union has grown into a fully integrated organisation offering a wide range of savings, investment and lending products that can be accessed through millions of Eftpos, ATM and merchants worldwide, with members enjoying access to their funds 24/7 from wherever they are.
These days a 40th birthday often means you’re just getting started. That is Warwick Credit Union’s view. Warwick and the Darling Downs have prospered through tough economic and climatic times, and continue to grow and hold promise for the future. Such confidence doesn’t spring out of thin air. It can be seen in the generations of families and businesses across our local area and the ongoing influx of new residents and investors.
The Warwick Credit Union has called the Darling Downs home for over 40 years and through a combination of foresight, determination and persistence, WCU has gained community support throughout the area whilst weaving the Credit Union firmly into the fabric of it’s communities.
