WIDE Bay Capricorn regional manager Craig Holden expects many local competitors to perform well in two carnivals at Agnes Water this weekend.
He is also confident of a strong showing from six local representatives in the final round of the SLSQ Fastest Man on Sand Series at Redcliffe.
At Agnes, the Branch North v South Teams Challenge will be held on Saturday, followed by an under-11 to under-17 individual carnival on Sunday, with a big local contingent in each.
"But judging by the domination of Tannum Sands and Emu Park competitors at the recent junior branch championships, North will certainly be hot favourites to win it and make it three challenge victories in a row," Holden said.
Competition starts at 11am on Saturday with all competitors requested to meet their team managers at 10am so that uniforms can be distributed and team photographs taken.
Holden said Sunday's carnival would be a smaller affair.
"But nonetheless, it will be a great chance for the under-11 to under-14 competitors to have a final hit-out prior to the junior state championships in two weeks' time, as well as a final hit-out for the under-15s and under-17s before next weekend's branch senior titles."
Holden said a small but quality team of athletes would make the trek to Redcliffe.
Elliott Heads athletes Braydon Batt, Christopher and Martin Powell, Daniel Crook and Bianka Dexter, and Bundaberg's Annelise Wesley will compete.
"There is plenty up for grabs, including individual glory for this weekend, as well as the overall cumulative point-score champions for each event and across each group," Holden said.
"Several locals are well placed to feature in the overall results, particularly Braydon, Christopher Powell and Annelise.
"Braydon, Daniel and Christopher Powell will line up together in the under-17 male beach sprints and beach flags events, with the possibility of also dabbling in the open age category as well, and I am sure they will all acquit themselves well.
"Martin will contest the under-12 male flags and sprints, with a good result in his favoured flags event possibly being enough to push him into contention for the overall point-score as well, depending on other results.
"Annelise will resume her competition against her local rival Bianka, who will be lining up for her first competition since the 2011 Australian championships.
"Annelise has been running nicely this season in the under-17 sprints and will be looking for a good result this weekend to try to force her way up the leader board as well for overall glory.
"However, I am sure Bianka will also perform well in the sprint and flags."
Locals to compete on Sunday:
Agnes Water: Codie Carmichael, Jack Lloyd, Rory Mowday; Elliott Heads: Braiden Crozier, Aimee Harvey, Liana Heaton, Scott Heaton, Trent Heaton, Jaimie McDuff ; Moore Park: Jemma Ballinger, Dylan Benson, Matthew Davis, Sandi Davis, Maddison Giudice, Thomas Giudice, Kiraly Groom, Sam Groom, Chloe Harris, Ellisa Harris, Emily Harvey, Samuel Kunze, McKenzie McKinney-Ross, Zoe McLaughlin, Claudia McLure, Jake Tolvanen, Mackenzie Vohland, Samuel Vohland); Bundaberg: Jill Cremer, Corey Findlay, Emma Finnis, Abby Johnston, Brodie Johnston, Lewis McLure, Jacob O'Shea, Tailah O'Shea, Jessie Rodgers, Toby Sheppard, Bonnie Stehbens.
