MAKING the most of what the region has to offer was the key to boosting tourism in the area, LNP leader Campbell Newman said.
"In terms of tourism, what we will be doing there relentlessly and energetically is promoting Queensland relentlessly to India, China and those emerging markets - they want to see the quintessential Australian spirit," he said.
During a visit to Bargara, Mr Newman had a chance to experience first hand one of Bundaberg's biggest attractions - the turtles at the Mon Repos Conservation Park.
"You can't see that elsewhere and that's what we want to show these people overseas," he said.
The leader braved the pouring rain for a chance to see the majestic animals hatch in the protected turtle rookery.
"I would not have missed it for the world," he said.
He said attractions like this would only help bring tourists to the area.
"If you bring them to Queensland they will come to regional areas," he said.
Mr Newman said he would also consider running in the 15km Cane 2 Coral fun run in August.
