MEMBER for Burnett Rob Messenger will be allowed to keep his roadside election signs up, after Main Roads acquiesced today and said the practice would now be permissible.

Despite earlier saying candidates could not place their signage on Main Roads land prior to the official campaign starting on February 19, it was later decided to reverse this position because of the unusual nature of the election campaign.

A spokesman for Main Roads said other candidates would now be able to follow suit.

Mr Messenger had earlier said he would defy Main Roads' ban, saying he had permission from the Electoral Commission Queensland to put up his signs.

Yesterday Mr Messenger hammered in another sign in front of the Bundaberg Police Station.

"If the Electoral Council Queensland say remove the signs I'm happy to comply with any legal requirements," he said.
