THE ukulele continues to be a hit with the people of Bundaberg.

The NewsMail recently reported the instruments had been walking out the doors of the music shops in town.

And due to the instrument's growing popularity, a Bundaberg ukulele group was recently formed.

Affectionately know as The Flukes, about 35 members meet weekly to share their love of the ukulele.

Founder of the group, Wendy Mills, said she'd had a desire to develop a ukulele group for a long time.

After interest from others, the group was formed late last year.

"There are about 35 members who meet every Monday at the Western Suburbs Leagues Club," Ms Mills said.

"Little by little we're getting to become known."

The fledgling group is yet to perform publicly but they are hopeful as the group grows and develops, they will get the opportunity to perform.

"We've all come together to play the ukulele, some members played years ago and wanted to start playing again, some have never played before and want to learn." Ms Mills said.

"We get together to play and have fun," she said.

"The group is happy to see any new members and are willing to help anyone who would like to learn."
