Police are fed up with drivers treating their car as their bedroom, eating cereal, doing make-up and writing those super-urgent text messages while behind the wheel.

Officer in charge at Warwick Police Senior Sergeant Stewart Day said drivers are often fined for not paying due care while driving.

"The most common things are texting, talking on the phone and playing with Ipods, but we do see people doing their make-up and brushing their hair," Snr Sgt Day said.

"While they're distracted, they're not paying attention while driving and that's when accidents happen."

He said Warwick Police had on numerous occasions, caught drivers behind the wheel drinking coffee while on the phone or having a beer.

"Also a lot of people drive with dogs on their lap and they can receive a ticket for that," Snr Sgt Day said.

One Warwick resident admitted to painting her toenails at the traffic lights.
