A NEW medical complex under construction is just two tenants short of capacity almost six months out from completion.

Honeyford's Bourbong St Medical Centre Complex, being built between the Bundaberg and Mater hospitals, just had its roof finished, meaning the building is expected to be finished by June.

"We just have to do the interiors and will be ready for the fit outs by the end of May," Honeyford director Anthony McPhee said.

The completion is just a few months after the scheduled January completion - a delay Mr McPhee attributed to wet weather.

Mr McPhee said the complex had already attracted five tenants for its seven-shop first stage.

"We have a chemist, pathology, cafe, ATM and potentially my accountancy firm Charter Partners," he said.

The developer said the company was hoping a general practitioner would take up one of the vacant tenancies.

As a part of the development the company is also building new car parks for their tenants.

"We have already had a few people rubbing their hands at the thought of a new car park," he said.

But Mr McPhee said the company was anxious the additional car parks would be left free for the tenants and their customers.

"Cameras will be put in to monitor the parking and to ensure it is not a problem."

Mr McPhee said the company had also received news that it was likely the project would continue into its second stage.

"There is a big medical group which is looking at taking a majority of that stage," he said.

But the property developers were remaining quiet about what company that may be.

"The contracts are with the solicitors at the moment," Mr McPhee said.

The first stage of the project has cost about $5 million - just over the estimated $4 million cost. The complex is expected to cost about $9 million.

The medical centre will be just a few kilometres away from the GP Super Clinic on Branyan St.
