ELECTRONIC goods were proving popular yesterday as some of Bundaberg's major stores staged their Boxing Day sales.

Steady crowds at The Good Guys, Joyce Mayne and Harvey Norman filed in and out of the stores, many people carrying items they had snapped up in the sales.

Big screen plasma TVs were obviously popular items for many people.

At The Good Guys shopper Len Shaxson was happy with his purchases of a toaster and electric jug.

Mr Shaxson said he had known exactly what he wanted, and had checked out the store in the days leading up to the sale.

"I've been waiting for this sale," he said.

"I just came for the specials."

Mr Shaxson said he paid cash for his purchases.

"It's not a good idea to get into debt at this time of year," he said.

"I don't have a credit card.

"They get a lot of people in a lot of trouble."

At Harvey Norman Ernie English was happy with his purchase of a microwave oven.

"I've been waiting for the Boxing Day sales to buy the microwave," he said.

"I think I got a good deal, I'm happy with the deal I got."

Bargain hunters across Australia are tipped to spend a total of up to $1.7 billion on the Boxing Day sales.
