BARGARA ladies performed well to win two of their three rounds in the Bowls Queensland (BQ) 2011 Pennant Championships finals at Tweed Heads Bowls Club on the weekend.
First-up, they defeated Pine Rivers 61-45, but they then lost to ultimate runners-up Tweed Heads 56-60 before bouncing back to outgun West Toowoomba 63-52.
Mooloolaba went on to claim the ladies' title in a nail-biting encounter with the host club 62-54, while in the men's section, Pine Rivers defeated South Toowoomba 63-48.
The Brisbane club had dominant wins in Robbie Wild and Joe Wood's rinks, triumphing 22-11 and 25-15 respectively.
South Toowoomba did get a 22-16 win in Chris Kiepe's rink, but it wasn't enough to stop Pine Rivers from taking the title.
The Bundaberg Port Curtis Men's District Bowls Association held its delegates meeting at Gin Gin Bowls Club last Sunday.
It flowed smoothly through to general business where discussions got heated when Bundaberg submitted their recommendations for changes in the procedure for players to be selected to represent the district in the BQ District Sides Championships at the Gold Coast in May 2012.
Bundaberg wants to go back to the old system where there would be four selectors, two from Gladstone and two from Bundaberg, with two selection trials to be held, the first in February/March comprising 32 players, and the second trial comprising 24 players. Selectors would then decide on the 16 players to represent the district.
Burnett Bowls Club will have their Ham Day this Sunday.
The format is triples, men's ladies or mixed, and to nominate, call the club on 4151 4217.
