A 23-YEAR-OLD father of two caught with more than 1600 "abhorrent" photos and videos of young children being sexually abused has been jailed.

During a raid on the Casey Joel Aberhart's Avoca home in March last year, officers found the massive haul of child exploitation material on his computer.

Aberhart faced Bundaberg District Court yesterday where Judge Marshall Irwin said the material found by police fitted all five categories used by the courts to classify types of exploitation material including adults sexually penetrating children, images of children in erotic poses and sadism and bestiality.

"There were 220 unique images...that came within category four involving penetrative sexual activities between adults and children," Judge Irwin said.

"Although I have not seen these images, they are appalling and disgusting demeaning of the children involved in these activities."

Judge Irwin slammed Aberhart's involvement in the "filthy trade" of exploiting young children.

"These children were exploited and corrupted," he said.

"A permanent record of their humiliation is available forever."

Barrister Eoin Mac Giolla Ri likened his client's behaviour to addictive gambling.

"You have been addicted to this material for your own selfish personal gratification for almost a decade," Judge Irwin said.

During the sentence, the court heard Aberhart's partner knew of his addiction and told him she would leave him if he continued to download and view it.

But Judge Irwin said the pair were still together and had two young children.

During the raid, police also found a hydroponic marijuana set up and more than 10g of marijuana.

Aberhart pleaded guilty to two counts of using a carriage service to access child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material, producing a dangerous drug, possessing a dangerous drug and possessing drug utensils.

He was sentenced to 15 months jail with parole release after four months, on the condition of a $1000 good behaviour bond of four years.

Once released from jail, Aberhart will be on probation for two years.
