Local businesses and emergency services join forces to support White Ribbon Day. The NewsMail’s Christina Ongley, Sergeant Ken Hendrie (front) recruit Darren Ashton, paramedics Helen Geddes and Fleur Myers, Across the Waves’ Darrell Stevens, Channel Nine’s Eve Sharpe and Brothers’ Tony Puls are all proud to display the new white ribbon stickers on their company vehicles.
WHITE ribbons will be on show around Bundaberg over the next month as local businesses and emergency services join forces to say no to domestic violence against women.
Bundaberg police district domestic violence co-ordinator Sergeant Ken Hendrie said the white ribbons would be on show on cars and businesses as part of the campaign.
"It's just a month of men saying no to domestic violence against women," he said.
Sgt Hendrie said the month started with the Reclaim The Night march in Bundaberg last night and would lead up to White Ribbon Day on November 25.
He said part of the campaign for the month would also involve posters on display encouraging men to swear an oath that they would not be violent towards women.
Sgt Hendrie said research showed about 300,000 domestic and family violence events occurred in Queensland every year.
A breakfast to mark the White Ribbon campaign will be held at the RSL on November 23, organised by Zonta.
Tickets for the breakfast are available at the Chiquita's boutique at 75 Bourbong St.
