Colour, movement and gorgeous dancers - it’s all at the Childers Festival of Cultures.
THE Childers Festival of Cultures is set to be bigger and better than ever with more stall holders, new entertainers and the adoption of a theme that coincides with this year's International Year of the Forest.
Bundaberg Regional Council events development officer Perry Bacon said the event, on July 30-31, was a “significant event”.
“It is one of the region's highlights,” Mr Bacon said.
“We had almost 55,000 people visit last year and are hoping for 60,000 this year.”
The event starts at 2pm on the Saturday with the community street parade, which is a warm-up for the main festival day on Sunday.
Mr Bacon said the main point of difference this year was the adoption of the Forest, Fibre and Flamenco theme, setting a backdrop for cultural diversity.
“The Forest Place, behind the RSL, will house talks, activities, demonstrations and displays that connect with the forest,” he said.
“Native trees will also be planted in the space at the end of the festival.”
Mr Bacon said he was organising the event with Nancy Calder, who has stepped down from local government and event management after more than 23 years.
“It is a transition period. She has been there since the inception of the festival, but from next year I will be looking after it,” he said.
