Johnny Brown and Artie Vella on My Kitchen Rules. The duo was eliminated in last night’s sudden death cook-off.
THE meat cleaver finally fell on Sunshine Coast butchers Johnny Brown and Artie Vella last night after a rollercoaster of a ride on My Kitchen Rules.
The Jolly Butchers, from Nambour Plaza Meats, were knocked out of the popular Channel 7 cooking competition last night after failing in the sudden death cook-off against New South Wales housemates Bill Ringland and Alex McCann.
Their last ditch effort to stay in the show, a three-course menu consisting of a kingfish and tuna carpaccio entrée, beef cheek main and apple pecan and rum cake dessert, scored a respectable 38 out of 60.
It was judged by show hosts and celebrity chefs Pete Evans and Manu Feildel, as well as guest judges Tobie Puttock, Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan.
But the Nambour butchers were edged off the plate by their Sydney competitors, who managed 41 out of 60 for their scallop and blood sausage entrée, rabbit main and chocolate orange tart dessert.
Speaking with the Daily after last night's show went to air, Mr Brown said it was an unfortunate end to their time on the show.
“We were hoping to go a lot further, but it just wasn't our night,” he said.
“The whole experience has been absolutely amazing though. The amount of things I have taken from the show are endless, especially new techniques on cooking and treating food.”
He said the show had encouraged him to pursue his dreams to one day go into catering.
“I've always wanted to do something a bit more along the lines of cooking food and not just selling it. I would love to cater to homes and do private house parties.”
