Men's Division meet kicks off

BUNDABERG Men’s Division Bowls Association’s annual meeting will be held this Sunday at Burnett Bowls Club at 10am, followed by a club delegate’s lunch at noon.

BUNDABERG Men’s Division Bowls Association’s annual meeting will be held this Sunday at Burnett Bowls Club at 10am, followed by a club delegate’s lunch at noon.

All club and social club presidents with their teams will then come together for an afternoon game of social bowls starting at 1pm with cash prizes for winners, runner-up and sportsman.

Social bowlers are welcome to nominate a team, and singles entries will be taken by phoning the Burnett Bowls Club on 4151 4217.

There will also be a High Tea at 4pm.

The Bowls Australia 2011 Australian Open will be held from February 13-19 at Darebin City Bowls Club, situated at the John Cain Memorial Reserve in the suburb of Thornbury, a short drive from Melbourne.

The site is also the Darebin International Sports Centre.

A multi-disciplined tournament, the Open features singles, pairs and triples for men and women, as well as a festival of bowls which incorporates over-60 triples, under-18 singles and bowlers with a disability.

Burnett Bowls Club junior Cassandra Millerick will represent Queensland in the under-18 singles and will play her first game on Friday morning.

This is a round robin event with the finals to be played on Saturday.

Also, Tantitha skip Kurt Brown will defend his 2010 Australian Open Triples title with Paul Jobson and Ben Twist.

International players from New Zealand, Canada, Malaysia, England and Ireland have qualified for this event with $125,000 in prizemoney up for grabs.

Action continues in the Taylor Bowls Super Challenge 2011, and in the men’s division of Bronze Section 2, Hervey Bay Red leads on 20 points, followed y by Burnett and Pialba, each on 19.

Then there is a big gap to Burrum Heads on 4, Elliott Heads 3, and The Albert on a solitary one point.

In the Bronze Section 2 Ladies division, Pialba and Burnett are the joint-leaders on 16 points, followed by Hervey Bay Red 9, and The Albert 7, but Burrum Heads and Elliott Heads are each yet to post a point.

Bargara are big leaders in the Bronze Section 3 Men, with 39 points, nine clear of Urangan, with Moore Park a similar margin away in third, with Hervey Bay Blue and Maryborough Services a long way behind on 5 and 4 respectively.

Moore Park has 25 points to their credit in Bronze Section 3 Ladies and they hold down top spot from Urangan 22, Bargara 17, Hervey Bay Blue 8 and Maryborough Services 0.

Round robins will be played on April 2-3 with the finals to follow on April 9 and 10.
