F-111 fire in the night sky

THERE was little room for error when Phil Rettke lined his camera up to take a snap of an F-111 performing the last ever dump-and-burn in Australia.

Phil Rettke’s time exposure photo of the final F-111 dump-and-burn over Bundamba on Saturday night.

THERE was little room for error when Phil Rettke lined his camera up to take a snap of an F-111 performing the last ever dump-and-burn in Australia on Saturday night.

Not only was it the famous manoeuvre’s swansong, but Mr Rettke was unsure as to what course the jets would take.

Luckily for the Flinders View resident, who took the photo from a water tank near the Haig Street Quarry Reserve in Brassall, everything panned out perfectly.

The two-minute exposure shot delivered Mr Rettke one of the best pictures he has taken in three years of amateur photography.

“It turned out a lot better than expected. It was a bit of trial and error, but in the end it was spot on,” he said.

The dump-and-burn took place over the Ipswich Turf Club in Bundamba as part of the Mayor’s Christmas Carols event.
