Child dead in latest Qld crash

A TWO-year-old child is believed dead after a crash south of Brisbane, the latest in a string of fatal accidents on Queensland roads.

A woman, believed to be the child's mother, has been rushed to hospital with serious head injuries.

Another child, aged 4, was also seriously injured when the car the trio was in hit a tree on Paradise Drive at Larapinta about 10.50am (AEST), the Department of Community Safety said.

"There were three people inside the car. One was an adult female who suffered serious head injuries and was taken to the Princess Alexandra hospital in a critical condition," a spokesman said.

"Another patient who was in the car was a four-year-old who was seriously injured and taken to the Mater Children's Hospital, and it's believed a two-year-old boy in the car is deceased."

Police could not immediately confirm the child's death but said a statement would be issued soon.

Earlier, police said a woman was killed and three other people injured in a two-vehicle crash that blocked the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane.

The vehicles collided at Glenwood, north of Gympie, about 9.20am (AEST).

The female driver and sole occupant of one vehicle died at the scene, police said.

"The three occupants of the other vehicle are believed to have been injured, with one of them a man who has been airlifted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital," police said.

And a motorbike rider, aged in his 30s, died in a collision with a car on the Toowoomba-Karrara Road just south of Toowoomba, west of Brisbane about 7.15am.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian struck by a vehicle last week died in hospital on Sunday, police said on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old woman was struck on Thursday on Logan Road at Eight Mile Plains, in Brisbane's south, as she tried to cross the road. The male driver of the car was not injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the accidents.
