PERFUMES from more than 200 orchids permeated the Isis Cultural Centre on Friday and Saturday during the running of the Childers & District Orchid Society’s annual Spring Show.

A delighted Society president Robert Fishlock said entries were up on the number exhibited last year.

“We’ve had an increase in competitors in most categories this year,” Mr Fishlock said.

“The standard is exceptionally high and we’re very pleased with the show’s outcome.”

As well as orchids, roses, cut flowers, ferns and succulents were also judged in the floral categories, while the photographic competition was judged in seven categories.

Hervey Bay’s Terry Bade took out prizes as Grand Champion, Best Species and first prize with his paphiopedilum, with the award for the Best Species by a Childers’ Grower going to Arthur and Daph Jennings’ Rhycostylis.
