CHILD safety is everybody’s business, and that was the message that echoed on the golf course yesterday.

A child protection charity golf day was held at Bargara Golf Club as part of Child Protection Week.

The week is aimed to raise the profile of all issues connected with child protection, including child abuse prevention, treatment, and support for children, young people and families.

Bundaberg police Detective Senior Sergeant Joe Hildred said while the community awareness day had a serious side, it was also a good opportunity to have a hit of golf.

“It’s was a good day,” he said.

“We had about 40 people on the course playing.”

Det Snr Sgt Hildred said it was important the community was aware of the issue so child safety could be ensured.

“We are raising awareness so children can be safe in the community, free of sexual abuse and harm and safe in the Bundaberg environment,” he said.

“This is so they can go to school and be safe.”

Det Snr Sgt Hildred said the day also supported Phoenix House, a charitable organisation committed to child safety.

He said he was pleased with the turn-out considering the day clashed with Father’s Day and the rugby league grand final.

“We are very happy with the support the community has shown in raising funds for the day,” he said.
