A MAN was found slumped over his steering wheel with bags of white powder and marijuana on the vehicle's floor, a court was told.
Benjamin Jon McCosh, 32, of Kensington, pleaded guilty in Bundaberg Magistrates Court to eight charges including shoplifting, obstructing police and possessing dangerous drugs.
Police prosecutor Robyn Shapcott said McCosh was found on June 29 slumped over the steering wheel of his car, which was parked on the side of Boundary Street.
Sgt Shapcott said McCosh appeared “heavily intoxicated” but a breath test returned a negative reading.
When McCosh was arrested for a failure to appear in court, police found white bags of powder on the floor and two grams of cannabis in a jewellery box.
On July 2, McCosh entered Woolworths in Sugarland and put Alice in Wonderland and Wall-E DVDs inside his coat.
He then paid for a tub of margarine and a Freddo Frog and tried to leave, but store alarms sounded.
McCosh faced three fail to appear charges and was yesterday arrested by police in Bourbong Street.
Defence lawyer Christine Delaney said her client was a father-of-two and had started on a “downward spiral” after the collapse of his 14-year relationship.
Ms Delaney said McCosh had turned up to court once, but the proceedings had ended, and he was in hospital with a broken foot on another occasion.
She said McCosh's criminal history was not remarkable and he was remorseful for his actions.
Magistrate Neil Lavaring placed McCosh on probation for 18 months.
