Moore Park player Josh Killer wants an upset win against Diggers tomorrow.
A MOORE Park defensive fortress will attempt to sustain the impending attacks from Diggers' strike pairing of Nick Maas and Michael Stayte tomorrow.
Silencing the pair is central to Moore Park's chances of causing an upset, but even coach Bruce Leslight knows it's not completely possible.
“Keep Maas under two goals and don't let Michael Stayte score, then we're in with a show,” he said realistically.
He said his last line of defence had proven their worth this season — finishing second in the league behind Diggers in goals against (20).
“It needs mentioning,” he said.
“They've been terrific and have continued to work hard to get in this position.”
Leslight said his boys were anything but daunted by facing the Archem League giants in their debut finals appearance at the top level.
“There's no negative vibes, there's no history and we've got nothing to lose,” he said.
“The Alloway boys in our squad finished last, last year, so they are just excited to be playing at this point in the season.”
Their previous two games had ended in 1-0 victories to Diggers.
“We've been creating the chances and not finishing,” he said.
“Maybe that's the experience factor showing through, but all I know is that the way we trained this week I think we're ready.
“I wish we had played Diggers on Wednesday night.”
Meanwhile, Bingera will need to lift to counter Waves in the elimination final, after the Mecano Cup champions rediscovered their winning form last weekend.
The fact that both teams have already won trophies this year (Bingera claimed the NewsMail Cup) shows the even nature of the competition this year and with both teams self-confessed “big-match sides” this promises to be a high-quality elimination semi-final.
