A NINE-DAY journey will end in Alexandra Park on Sunday afternoon for more than 1000 cyclists.
The troop will have covered 570km — starting in Yeppoon tomorrow — as part of Bicycle Queensland's Cycle Queensland ride.
Cyclists on everything from road bikes and tricycles to tandems and mountain bikes will ride into town, after starting from Gin Gin on Sunday morning.
Event manager Rebecca Harwood explained the reason for the event.
“Cycle Queensland is not a race. The ride is designed to let people pedal away from the everyday,” she said. “The event is also a great opportunity for the towns we pass through because there'll be an extra 1000 tourists looking for things to do.”
“Cafés, bakeries and pubs will be overflowing with lycra-clad cyclists.”
Harwood urged Bundaberg's motorists to be patient when travelling the same roads as the cyclists.
“Advisory signs will alert drivers when to expect riders to be ahead on the road.
"And there'll also be police and marshals keeping an eye on things,” she said.
Most of the riders are expected to arrive around noon on Sunday.
