DESPITE finishing towards the end of the field in the opening stages of the Tour of Spain, Bundaberg cyclist Allan Davis says he remains confident and fit approaching the business end of the competitive season.
Davis finished in 131st spot — but best of the Australians — on the fourth stage, a hilly 183km stretch not suited to Davis's strengths.
Davis spoke to the NewsMail yesterday, still buzzing after his recent double-selection in the Australian Commonwealth Games and world championships road team.
“It's all good here, but stinking hot,” he said after the gruelling fourth stage.
“I'm just taking it easy and finding my legs — 17 stages to go and I have to finish off in good form for the world's and Commonwealth Games.
“Apart from that (the heat) I feel quite good so far.”
The tour continues overnight with the 198km stretch from Guadix to Lorca.
The world championships are in Geelong from September 29, while the Commonwealth Games are scheduled for Delhi, in India, in October.
