SKILLED locals will always get a job before a backpacker, according to IMPACT Make Your Mark senior manager Steve Beer.
“From my experience, employers would rather have locals that have done it year in and year out rather than have a backpacker,” he said.
“The people who have picked will always be employed if they’re applying for the jobs.”
He said local workers with experience were faster than backpackers.
“They just get in and get the job done,” he said.
“They will always be employed in the industry.”
Mr Beer warned the job was not for everybody, saying it was a hard day’s work.
