Media lock horns on Burnett River

BUNDABERG'S media employees are recovering from an intense dragon boat race on Sunday in which no team emerged victorious, despite what they may have told you.

The NewsMail, Bundaberg Broadcasters and Seven, helped by members of the Bundaberg Dragon Boat Club, went head-to-head in races down the Burnett River.

The NewsMail team beat Channel 7 in the first race, as did Bundaberg Broadcasters in the second.

The final race between newspaper and radio was too close to call and it seems both sides are claiming victory.

NewsMail team leader Cristel Simmonds said the employees were left bruised and battered, but with a new found respect for Bundaberg's dragon boaters.

“It's harder than it looks, but it was good fun. I'd encourage people to give it a try,” she said.
