Brothers denied bail over invasion

TWO brothers were denied bail yesterday after facing Bundaberg Magistrates Court on charges relating to a home invasion in Burnett Heads.

Mathew Sam Bost and Christopher Robert Bosotas were charged with a string of offences including assault, stealing, wilful damage and entering a dwelling.

They were among five men charged over a home invasion which allegedly took place on July 2.

Defence lawyer Jack Pappas said there was only a tenuous connection between either man and the event in question.

He said the alleged victim knew Bost socially, but failed to identify him as one of the attackers.

“The only real connection appears to be to one of the co-accused, who has a significant interest in shifting the blame,” Mr Pappas said.

He called for brothers Bosotas and Bost, who changed his name legally several years ago, to be granted bail.

But police prosecutor Sergeant Robyn Shapcott said there was a strong case that the men were involved.

“Tenuous is not the word I would use to describe the connection,” she said.

She said police had found blood on the sleeve of the shirt Bost was wearing on the night in question and his distinctive white Hummer was seen leaving the scene.

She said Bosotas was also in the vehicle when it was followed by police moments after the event.

Magistrate John Smith refused bail and remanded the men in custody.
